When fluids are trapped and collected in our ankles, they are unable to circulate through the rest of your body and cause your legs, ankles, and feet to become swollen. This condition is known as edema. While edema is not known to be life threatening, it can be a symptom for more serious conditions or illnesses. If you begin experiencing swollen limbs, it is best to consult your doctor to receive a proper diagnoses. Most of the time swollen limbs can be treated fairly simply with supplements, oils, and massage. The affects these oils have can vary from person to person depending on body composition.

1. Cypress and Fennel Oil: Are good for swollen ankles. Because cypress oil is a diuretic, it helps the body remove excess water and salt that can lead to fluid  retention. It also stimulates circulation by increasing  blood flow. Fennel Oil - is another way to get rid of swelling. Which can be mixed with other types of essential oils. A recommend mixture is 15 drops Fennel oil and 15 drops of Cypress oil diluted in 30 ml of Evening Primrose oil. Massage the affected swollen area/areas. It is a quick way to relieve the pain and discomfort and help the inflammation go away. Drink a lot of fluid and massage from feet up to the knees.

2. Citrus Fresh, Grape Fruit, Cypress, and Lemongrass Oils: These 4 essential oils contain properties that help reduce inflammation of the skin in only a few minutes. Measure 2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil, you are going to use this as a carrier oil. Mix in 2 to 3 drops each of  the cypress oil and lemongrass oil with the coconut oil and massage in swollen area. Start massaging well for about 10 minutes. Remember to put your feet up up as you massage to promote good blood flow. For best results, repeat this massage 2 or 3 times per day. Then you can put 2 to 3 drops of Citrus Fresh and Grape Fruit oil in a glass of water, do not drop into a plastic bottle, it needs to be glass and drink. I only recommend drinking Young Living Oils because I know they are safe for consumption. Read more here.

3. Lemongrass oil, Cypress oil, Grapefruit oil, and Lavender oil: Another alternative is to add 6 drops of lemongrass oil, 6 drops of Cypress oil, 6 drops of Grapefruit oil, and 4 drops of Lavender oil to 1/4 coconut oil, which will act as your carrier oil and rub on swollen area. Apply 2x daily and massage towards heart. Lavender oil is good to ease the discomfort of swelling in different body parts. Lemongrass oil benefits also include pain and ache relief. The oil helps to improve blood circulation, and therefore can relieve muscle spasms, back aches, sprains, and cramps. Grapefruit oil has been used for centuries to help beat inflammation. It is considered an anti-inflammatory. It also helps decrease fluid retention. Grapefruit oil is naturally high in antioxidants and phytochemicals that reduce oxidative stress and disease-causing inflammation.
